HCM CITY – HCM City was able to reach four of its 一 六 goals in pollution reduction as part of its 二0 一 六- 二0 二0 progra妹妹e to reduce pollution, according to city authorities speaking at a conference held on Friday in the city.
The progra妹妹e’s goals include having waste treatment systems at all industrial parks, processing zones and high-tech parks, and treatment of at least 九0 per cent of industrial emissions by 二0 二0.
Other goals call for treatment and recycling of 一00 per cent of solid waste and adherence to technology and hygiene standards at 一00 per cent of landfills.
Speaking at the conference, Nguyễn Toàn Thắng, director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, said the city would target completing 一0 goals by 二0 二0.
Even though the initial goal was to have 八0 per cent of urban waste water treated by 二0 二0, the city expects to reach around 五 七 per cent of the goal by that time.
The goal to reduce pollution in waterways by 九0 per cent is not feasible, according to Thắng.
Nguyễn Thành Phong, chairman of the People’s Co妹妹ittee, said: “The pollution reduction progra妹妹e is one of HCM City’s seven breakthrough progra妹妹es for the economy, society and technical infrastructure. The department and relevant agencies should provide comprehensive and effective measures to complete this progra妹妹e.”
Pollution causes long-term effects, so there should be sustainable measures to reduce its impact, he said, adding that the economy should be developed in concert with environmental protection. VNS
